Summer Fun in San Antonio

One of the best things about living in San Antonio is that there is always something fun to do—often right in your own backyard. Summertime is the perfect time to get out and enjoy all the things the Alamo city has to offer. From outdoor movie nights to museums, farmer’s markets, theme parks and more, there’s fun for the entire family. Below are a few of our favorites ways to spend summer days.

Soak Up Some Culture

…by exploring one of the city’s many (air conditioned) museums. Texas history buffs will enjoy the exhibits found at the recently renovated Witte Museum, while modern art lovers will appreciate the contemporary collections of the McNay. Located in the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River, the San Antonio Museum of Art houses an extensive collection of work from ancient Mediterranean, Asian and Latin artists. And, for the kiddos, the DoSeum provides three stories of hands-on fun with interactive exhibits, activities, and programs (tip: adults love it too!).

Beat the Heat

…in the cold, spring-fed pool at San Pedro Springs Park. Lined by large, shady Cypress trees it’s a peaceful oasis right in the middle of the city. Head over to the super hip and happening Pearl Brewing Company and let the kids play on the splash pad at Pearl Park while you shop the popular Farmer’s Market (weekends only) or grab a bite from one of the delicious restaurants in the Bottling Dept. Food Hall. Head to the heart of downtown to check out one of San Antonio’s newest places to splash and play, Yanaguana Garden at the Hemisfair. This modern playground can keep kids (and adults) busy all day long.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side…

….at the San Antonio Zoo. Feed the Lory’s, attend a zoo camp, ride the carousel, have an animal encounter and more. There is so much to do at the zoo you can easily make a day of it! While you’re there, don’t forget to climb aboard the Zoo Eagle Train for a ride around Brackenridge Park!

Play All Day…

….at the oldest children’s amusement park in America. The Kiddie Park is one of San Antonio’s most beloved attractions with its carnival games, arcade, face painting, and of course the rides! From a colorful carousel to a kid-sized Ferris wheel, the Kiddie Park offers good old fashioned family fun!

Bring A Blanket…

…and spread out on the lawn at Travis Park to enjoy a free outdoor movie presented by Slab Cinema. Sponsored by the City of San Antonio, the family-friendly movies are shown every Tuesday night through August 7. This summer’s lineup includes, “Charlotte’s Web,” “Beauty and the Beast,” Coco and more.

Be A Day Tripper…

…and hit the road. It is so easy to get away for the day and see what other cities have to offer. Go paddleboarding in Austin, check out Hill Country swimming holes, explore the shops and restaurants of Boerne, Fredericksburg, or New Braunfels. Or pack the sunscreen and head south to the coast for a day at the beach.

With so much to see and do in San Antonio, there’s no reason for boredom of the summertime blues. Get out and see for yourself why the Alamo City is such a popular tourist destination and create a staycation all your own.
